In August 2020. Hospice of Waterloo Region in partnership with the Grand River Film Festival, launched a short film contest You Only Die Once: #YODO. Filmmakers and storytellers in Waterloo Region were called to tell stories that to focus on death as a part of living. These short films explored and educated others about death, dying, and grief in a personally unique way that has a positive influence on the community. Proposals were submitted, and the Hospice announced the shortlist of artists whose works were accepted to move forward into the next round. These local filmmakers will be hard at work on their films over the winter, and submit their final films to the Hospice in the spring where GRFF will be excited to feature the final winners in our 2021 festival.
Visit yodo-contest.ca for more information and to follow the artists on their journey to the spring. the first time to present a short film competition that aims to get community members talking about what it means to live well until you die.
